Deesha Philyaw’s The Secret Lives of Church Ladies is a short story collection that explores some of the places where Black women and girls dare to follow their desires and pursue a momentary reprieve from being good. These stories explore human connection, race, womanhood, inheritance, and the elemental darkness in us all. Moniz’s debut collection, Milk Blood Heat: Stories, delve into the ordinary worlds of young girls, women, and men who find themselves confronted by extraordinary moments of violent personal reckoning. Set in the cities and suburbs of Florida, the 11 short works in Dantiel W. The event will now take place in the Auditorium (Building 1, 2nd Floor, Room 1261).
